Wow Mark, the book cover is a bit of a change, isn't it?

What made the change in direction and will the old books be republished with new style covers to match?

Yes, as is the case every couple of years or so, there will be a redesign across the entire backlist which will probably come in when Good As Dead is published in paperback next year. I love the way the books look at the moment, but there is always a feeling that any design can start to look tired - or more to the point - be copied overly much - after a couple of years. So - hopefully like the books themselves - you take steps to keep it fresh, hence the new look. I think it's very strong and hope that people like it, even if they weren't in favour of anything changing at all...

I like book covers changing, but I do get annoyed when the blurb on the back changes too - Kernick is a bugger for doing that, and I've often bought his twice - not helped by the fact that, for some reason, his titles never manage to stay in my head.

Changing the blurb is VERY sneaky. Next time I see Kernick I shall slap him on your behalf.

Does the author have any say in the blurb or is it an editorial decision of the publisher?

I have found the quality of blurbs can vary. Some whet the appetite, which I think is all they should do. Others can be like tabloid headlines focussing on minor incidents and bearing no relation to the actual story.

Sorry to say that there won't be any copies available at Harrogate as it's almost a month before publication...

Glad you're enjoying it, Craig.
