Youghal - 5 miles of golden beach

« on: March 18, 2009 »

Tzara was ever so kind as to ask me to pick the book this month.  I never though I'd take so long agonising over something I though would be fairly straightforward.  I have walked up and down my book shelves over the last few weeks changing my mind every second day.

Anyway I've ssettled at last upon Stephen Booth's Black Dog.  There is a sneaky reason as well as it being a fine book.  I have read 5 of Stephen's books with two more on my TBR pile, however after reading Black Dog I then read the other 4 out of order so I'm going back to the begining to get to grips with the begining again.

I hope those of you who join in this month enjoy the book as well.

28th April for discussion please.  I must now go and make comments on Case Histories

Yes, welcome, Globule! The Book Club is also what prompted me to "speak up." There are a lot of talented and interesting people on here!

Have ordered it today. Something tells me I might be having way enough time to read in the near future, so I guess I would be able to finish it before April 28th......!

Really enjoyed this book, in fact it's probably my favorite of Booth's series so far (have read the first 6) as i felt his raw talent shone most in this. The Peak District is a fantastic and atmospheric setting and Cooper and Fry provide good lead characters however, as the series goes on i found Fry becoming a little frustrating and Cooper a little dull, is that the right word? Maybe not multi layered enough for my liking but i will carry on with this series and hope  that it re catches the early promise that Black Dog shows. Enjoy your read guys.
